Melanie graduated from La Trobe University in 1997, with a bachelor of Physiotherapy. Mel has worked in private practices across Melbourne since 1998. In 2009 she became a partner at Kooyong Physiotherapy Centre. In 2011 together with Robin, Ann and Fiona she worked to create and establish Spring Physio Gym.
She is a senior physiotherapist and one of the directors of Spring Physio Group. Her clinical role is mainly carried out at our Kooyong site but is very passionate about our Spring Physio Gym space for ongoing rehab and high level strength and conditioning training to complete full return to sport and function after injury. She developed our ‘Func Fit’ classes for functional strength and can often be spotted in the gym doing her own strength training.
Melanie has a passion for encouraging and engaging in healthy life habits. She can often be heard raving on about the merits of consistent exercising and the importance of changing any beliefs that prevent people from getting out and moving. She has a huge interest and passion for functional strength training to prevent the effects of immobility, sometimes called the effects of aging.
Mel's clinical areas of interest
- Strength training
- Upper limb injuries
- Tendinopathy
- Postural retraining
- Myofascial (muscle and connective tissue) pain – including dry needling techniques for treatment
Mel is a keen walker, gym goer and generally active person. She is very passionate about women and girls AFL and in a weak moment decided well into her 40’s that having a go at over 35’s women’s footy would be a good idea. She has certainly increased her ‘experience’ of footy injury management since that decision.
Mel is very passionate and committed to assisting her patients with changing exercise habits, rather than placing all the focus on a singular goal…but she will support any celebrations of goal achievement too!
